The Executive Chairman, LASUBEB, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King said this at the just concluded 4-day training organized for special teachers on the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and utilization of UBEC materials held at LASUBEB's Multi-purpose hall, Maryland, Ikeja.
The workshop is organized by the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The UDL model enables teachers design and teach their subjects with the aid of instructional materials, in ways that make learning useable and accessible to all learners.
Alawiye-King noted that the goal of the workshop which commenced on Monday 15th November 2021 is to doff all barriers to learning, and also allow challenged pupils to be independent, develop a sense of belonging, and improve cognitive growth.
“Every Pupil matters, every child counts to us in Lagos State, it is the Board's responsibility to provide free, compulsory basic education, regardless of background and ability, that is why this programme is being organized for our special teachers. This is to ensure that they are equipped to facilitate the knowledge we are trying to instill into the pupils” he said.
Alawiye-King disclosed that the training is in line with the education transformation drive of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's ’s THEMES agenda (Education and Technology).
Dr. Saheed Ibikunle, Board Member in charge of School Support Services, stated that the training is designed to provide baseline knowledge for critical thinking in learning, which will in turn promote quality, equitable education with lifelong learning amongst pupils in public primary schools.
He urged the participant to take advantage of the training for productive use.
