LASUBEB HOLDS PRE- BID MEETING WITH CONTRACTORS’ FOR Y2019-Y2020 UBEC LASUBEB INTERVENTION PROJECTS

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board on Monday, 11th October, 2021, sensitized intending contractors on E- procurement process of bidding at LASUBEB multi-purpose hall, Maryland, Ikeja. The gathering, themed emphasis on contractors’ response on E- procurement processes is aimed at informing and enlightening intending contractors on processes of electronic procurement, implementation of e-tendering, e- publishing, e-bidding and e-Award models in bidding for the Y2019/2020 UBEC/LASUBEB intervention projects.

Hon.Wahab Alawiye-King, Executive Chairman, LASUBEB stated that the process is to cede the extant bureaucracy prevalent with the manual procurement process. He explained that the introduction of e-procurement platform is to eliminate excessive physical interactions, deepen the implementation of projects, workability and effectiveness of procurement and also speed up the delivery of critical projects in the state.

While commending Mr. Governor for establishing the electronic platform under the third pillar of the THEMES agenda (Education and Technology). He furthered that it will encourage accountability, transparency, competition, fairness and value – for money.

Alawiye-King noted that the process will ease business transactions between government and stakeholders with service providers in procurement cycle to conduct business engagements from their comfort zones.

He urged the contractors’ to take advantage of the meeting for clarification and also follow the due process as contained on the platform.

Director General, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency , Mr. Fatai Onafowote ably represented by Mr. Akintunde Moruf Subair stated that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is poised in running an inclusive government adding that the e-bidding system is encrypted, interactive and can be accessed from any part of the world.

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, received the Zonal Director, UBEC Southwest Zone and other delegates from the Universal Basic Education Commission at LASUBEB’s Board room on Wednesday,13 April, 2022 on a working visit to the Board. The Zonal Director, Dr. Mrs. Aishat Abdul who led the delegation, stated that the purpose of the visit is to synergize and familiarize with the Board, exchange ideas and also map out strategies in evolving basic education in Lagos state and southwest in general. She commended the Lagos state government on its giant strides in up-scaling basic education in the state, adding that the use of technology in classrooms and welfare for teachers and pupils has made it a pacesetter amongst others. Dr. Abdul noted that UBEC and SUBEBs have been actively addressing various challenges facing primary education whilst laying her prayer on advocacy, dialogue, partnership, teachers training, and sensitization for effective Universal Basic Education policy implementation. While doting her points at the meeting, she stated that the rate of out–of–school children in the region is alarming, coupled with security challenges. Hence, there is need for state to be proactive in addressing these challenges. At the reception, the Executive Chairman, LASUBEB - Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King, appreciated UBEC for its contributions to the development of basic education in the state. Responding to some of the issues raised, Alawiye-King noted that the Board values partnership and collaboration necessary to achieving the social goal of quality basic education for all. He averred that the Board functions on a celar mandate and has its standard operating procedures. LASUBEB Chair expressed that Mr. Governor has been supportive in empowering the workforce of the Board, through various trainings and also investing in perimeter fencing in schools, as well as inter-agency collaborations to ensure a safe learning environment. He equally noted that a Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools has been resuscitated to massively and aggressively address infrastructural deficit in the sector. His words "Digital integration and infusion into our educational system have enhanced teaching and learning outcomes in our classrooms." He asserted that over 7000 children have been kitted with back-to-school materials and enroled into public schools under the project zero initiative, a strategy deployed to drastically reduce the menace of out-of-school children in the state.

The State government on Tuesday, 22nd March 2022, commissioned 5 poultry pens under the Lagos State Agriculture Education Programme (LASAEP) in Public Primary Schools. The commissioning took place simultaneously at five (5) Primary Schools, namely: Obele Primary School, Itire; Community Primary School ii Egan, Alimosho; Roman Catholic Primary School, Ipakodo; and Methodist Primary School, Gberigbe. The construction of the poultry pens in schools is aimed at inculcating farming into young ones. LASAEP is a programme approved by Mr Governor to compliment the efforts of UBEC in revamping agricultural education. Six schools benefitted from the construction of the Pens with the supply of birds as encapsulated under the mantra “catch them young”. While five pens have been completed and are being commissioned, the poultry pen at Christ Central Primary School, Mushin LGEA is still under construction. In his remarks at Obele Primary School, Itire, Surulere, the Executive Chairman LASUBEB, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King explained that the UBEC Agricultural Education Training Programme (AETP) initiative to 51 schools has been vibrant and attractive to learners in 11 Local Government Education Authorities, with different enterprises such as crop farming, fishery, animal husbandry and poultry. He averred that the involvement of pupils in farming will not only contribute to economic development, but resuscitate agriculture in the learning environment and also promote agricprenuership in the state. “I encourage the learners to take full advantage of this programme and build lifelong skills, that will be useful to them in the nearest future. I also urge the school manager and teachers to see to it that the pen is well utilized and supervised” Alawiye-King said. Mr. Abidemi Iwajomo, the Poultry pen consultant, testified that the positive interest showed by the pupils has projected a greener pasture in farming, urging the pupils not to rest on their oars in acquiring farming skills, for it is a profession that is contributing majorly to the development of the nation.
