UBEC MEETS LASUBEB ON FEDERAL TEACHERS SCHEME

by LASUBEB Publicity unit | February 28th 2022

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board met with the delegates of the Universal Basic Education Commission during the 2nd Quarterly Nationwide Monitoring of Y2020/2021 Federal Teachers Scheme.

Federal Teachers Scheme is an intervention of the Federal Government to support school services across states. The scheme affords interested teachers the opportunity to teach in Public Schools for two years.

At the meeting, the Executive Chairman LASUBEB, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King appreciated UBEC on the various interventions provided for basic education in the state.

He noted that “education is a social good, the demand outweighs the supply, therefore, there must be interventions from time to time.

However, if these interventions are not properly monitored, it may lead to chaos in the system. We thank you for the interventions you have been providing.”

Alawiye-King stated that the Board has a special way of employing teachers who are not only academically sound but professionally qualified for teaching, adding that the federal teachers are equally giving priority during public primary school teachers recruitment in Lagos State.

The Executive Secretary UBEC, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi who led the team from Abuja, stated that the meeting is to address the challenges facing the scheme and also exchange ideas on the sustainability of programme.

He commended the Lagos State government on its innovative Programmes and interventions which has contributed immensely to the development of basic education in the state.

While exchanging ideas and experiences with the beneficiaries and headteachers of public primary schools, Bobboyi commended the 99 beneficiaries of the 6th set of the scheme, for their exemplary performance and effective contributions in the four corners of the learning environment, noting that Lagos state has always been a pacesetter amongst others.

He urged the teachers not to rest on their oars and promise to provide solutions to some of the challenges outlined in the session.
